On 4 December 2024, the European Commission released a proposal for a Regulation enabling a progressive start of operations for Europe’s new digital border system - the Entry/Exit System (EES). According to the proposal, the Member States will start registering at least ten per cent of border crossings, and by the end of the given six-month period, they will need to reach the full registration of all people.

Fedasil announced that the Belgian reception network has now a higher capacity than that recorded during the asylum crisis of 2015-2016. Eurostat heeft gegevens vrijgegeven over alleenstaande minderjarigen die tussen maart 2022 en september 2024 tijdelijke bescherming kregen in 21 EU-lidstaten en alle EFTA-landen. Oostenrijk, Nederland en Litouwen hebben in absolute termen de meeste statuten van tijdelijke bescherming verleend aan alleenstaande minderjarigen sinds maart 2022. België heeft in dezelfde periode tijdelijke bescherming verleend aan 1600 alleenstaande minderjarigen.

Op 7 november 2024 kwam de 'High-Level Committee on Resettlement and Humanitarian Admission' voor het eerst bijeen. Het comité zal de Europese Commissie ondersteunen bij het opstellen van het tweejaarlijkse EU-plan, waarin het aantal vluchtelingen wordt vastgesteld dat in de EU zal worden toegelaten, evenals de landen en regio’s vanwaar hervestiging en toelating op humanitaire gronden moeten plaatsvinden.

Op 5 november werd Magnus Brunner, de Oostenrijkse kandidaat voor de portefeuille Interne Zaken en Migratie, ondervraagd door de LIBE-Commissie. Brunner gaf aan de uitvoering van bepaalde onderdelen van het Nieuwe Pact voor Migratie en Asiel te willen versnellen en stond open voor het verkennen van nieuwe ideeën ter aanvulling van het pact. Hij kondigde ook aan dat hij een nieuwe Terugkeerrichtlijn zou indienen en legale migratiekanalen zou versterken om de vaardigheden aan te trekken die de arbeidsmarkten van de EU nodig hebben.
