The Belgian reception network reaches a capacity of 36.077 places

Fedasil announced that the Belgian reception network has now a higher capacity than that recorded during the asylum crisis of 2015-2016. However, this capacity is insufficient to accommodate all applicants for international protection who are entitled to reception. At present, 2.650 single men are still on the waiting list for a reception place.

On 12 November 2024, the reception network from Fedasil and its partners reached 36.077 places. The newly created places are most often temporary.

The places in the reception network are distributed across 107 collective centres (managed by Fedasil and its partners) and individual accommodations managed by the Public Centres for Social Welfare (CPAS/OCMW) and other associations. Around 500 people in families are also being housed in 5 hotels in Brussels - reception is planned there until a place becomes available in the regular centres.

In addition to this reception network, applicants for international protection are accommodated by the homeless reception sector in Brussels. Thanks to federal funding, 2,000 places are still available there.
