Applications for international protection from Syrians are temporarily not processed
As of 9 December 2024, the Office of the Commissioner General for Refugees and Stateless Persons will temporarily suspend processing cases of applicants originating from Syria. Planned personal interviews will be cancelled and assessments will be temporarily put on hold.
In the context of the recent events in Syria, the Office of the Commissioner General for Refugees and Stateless Persons (CGRS) announced the temporary suspension of processing files of Syrian applicants for international protection.
Planned personal interviews will be cancelled and assessments will be temporarily put on hold. Only personal interviews and decisions for persons enjoying a protection status in another EU Member State will be continued.
This suspension applies until the CGRS has sufficient objective information to accurately assess the security situation in Syria and the risk of persecution.
