Volunteers in reception centres are essential in Belgium

On the occasion of International Volunteer Day, Fedasil highlights the importance of volunteers who give their time to residents in reception centres and of sponsors who create links with these residents outside of the centres. If you have free time, join them and contact a reception centre in your neighbourhood!

International Volunteer Day, commonly known as IVD, is celebrated on 5 December every year. The day is a unique opportunity for people and volunteer-involving organizations to acknowledge the contributions and impact of volunteering.

Fedasil, which benefits from the support of nearly 700 volunteers, highlights their actions in the reception centres, whether helping with homework, managing the cloakroom, teaching languages, or leading creative workshops for residents. As the staff from the reception centres are always open to new ideas or talents, Fedasil invites those interested to contact a reception centre in their region to offer their time.

It is also possible to join the sponsorship program launched by Fedasil in 2023. This program aims to create individual links between residents and people from outside, thus contributing to the integration of applicants for international protection within the local community and offering them the opportunity to practice French or Dutch.
