In July 2025, the Odysseus Network for Legal Studies on Migration and Asylum in Europe organises the 25th edition of its yearly summer school. It will focus on the European immigration and asylum policies from a legal perspective, including the latest developments in 2025. Special emphasis will be placed on the adoption of the New Pact on Migration and Asylum.

On 25 March 2025, the Belgian Contact Point to the European Migration Network (EMN) participated in a study morning dedicated to the presentation of a new tool: "The Reception Centre as Seen by Children." The new tool provides practical methods for capturing children's experiences, enabling professionals to better understand their needs and enhance the quality of care in these centres.

This workshop, jointly organised by the Migration Policy Center (MPC) and the Mercator Forum Migration and Democracy (MIDEM), will provide a platform for presenting and discussing empirical research on public attitudes toward migration, the sociopolitical mechanisms driving migration-related polarisation, and the policy responses addressing these challenges.

On 17-18 October 2024, EMN Belgium participated in the Odysseus Network Conference 2024 on EU Legislation after the Pact. This event offered EMN Belgium the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of some of the 485 pages included in the new legal instruments introduced by the New Pact on Migration and Asylum.

What does the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum actually mean for Belgian migration and asylum procedures? This study day will allow lawyers, magistrates and all legal practitioners to consider this question, benefiting from the contributions and insights of experts from national migration and asylum authorities, various non-governmental organisations, and several universities.

This conference aims to present the first results of a Fedasil-funded mentoring-to-work project for highly skilled asylum seekers. It will discuss the challenges and opportunities of using mentoring as a pre-integration tool for asylum seekers. It will also explore the added value of mentoring for those who receive a positive decision and the challenges that arise from working with status holders.
