Odysseus Summer School on EU immigration and asylum law and policy (2 weeks)

In July 2025, the Odysseus Network for Legal Studies on Migration and Asylum in Europe organises the 25th edition of its yearly summer school. It will focus on the European immigration and asylum policies from a legal perspective, including the latest developments in 2025. Special emphasis will be placed on the adoption of the New Pact on Migration and Asylum.

What

The Odysseus summer school aims to provide participants with a global knowledge of EU Migration and Asylum Law. A special focus will be placed on the instruments adopted under the framework of the New EU Pact on Migration & Asylum. Courses and debates will include both theory and practical activities, and will cover the issues of screening, Dublin and solidarity between Member States, the border asylum procedure, Eurodac, the crisis, force majeure and instrumentalisation regulation, reception conditions of asylum seekers, standards for the qualification of individuals as beneficiaries of international protection, and the role of the EU asylum agency. The topic of EU return policy will be addressed in a debate about the Commission’s legislative proposal on return, other than through a dedicated course. In addition to classes, participants will also have the opportunity to build their professional network.

The courses and debates are led by academic experts and practitioners from EU institutions. The summer school is open for students, NGO’s, PhD students, trainees, professionals, refugees and other profiles. It is also highly valued by employers.
