Op 24 juni 2025 nam EMN België deel aan de conferentie in het kader van het Poolse voorzitterschap over aanpak van irreguliere migratie. On 23 January 2023, the European Commissioner for Home Affairs participated in the European Parliament plenary session to discuss EU funding of physical border protection structures such as walls, fences or other barriers at the external border. On 4 December 2024, the European Commission released a proposal for a Regulation enabling a progressive start of operations for Europe’s new digital border system - the Entry/Exit System (EES). According to the proposal, the Member States will start registering at least ten per cent of border crossings, and by the end of the given six-month period, they will need to reach the full registration of all people.

Op 5 november werd Magnus Brunner, de Oostenrijkse kandidaat voor de portefeuille Interne Zaken en Migratie, ondervraagd door de LIBE-Commissie. Brunner gaf aan de uitvoering van bepaalde onderdelen van het Nieuwe Pact voor Migratie en Asiel te willen versnellen en stond open voor het verkennen van nieuwe ideeën ter aanvulling van het pact. Hij kondigde ook aan dat hij een nieuwe Terugkeerrichtlijn zou indienen en legale migratiekanalen zou versterken om de vaardigheden aan te trekken die de arbeidsmarkten van de EU nodig hebben.

Frontex onthulde vandaag dat het aantal detecties van onregelmatige grensoverschrijdingen aan de externe grenzen van de EU in de eerste acht maanden van 2023 met een vijfde (+18%) is gestegen tot meer dan 232.350, en dat deze toename voornamelijk werd gedreven door het aantal aankomsten via de Centrale Middellandse Zee, wat de belangrijkste migratieroute naar de EU blijft.
