Belgium issued 74.366 first residence permits to non-EU nationals in 2023, an 8,5% increase compared with 2022.

Volgens recente cijfers gepubliceerd door Eurostat, heeft België 14.079 uitgaande verzoeken verstuurd om de verantwoordelijkheid voor het behandelen van een asielaanvraag over te dragen onder de Dublin-procedure. In 2023, Belgium registered 8,8% fewer first-time asylum applicants than in 2022, that is to say, 29.260 in 2023 compared to 32.100 in 2022. On the contrary, the number of first-time asylum applicants registered in the whole EU in 2023 reached 1.048.880, which represents an increase of 20.1 % compared to 2022.

Het Europees Bureau voor Asiel heeft zojuist de laatste trends op het gebied van asielaanvragen vrijgegeven voor de periode januari - juni 2023. Gedurende de eerste helft van 2023 steeg het aantal asielaanvragen tot 519.000, een toename van 28% vergeleken met de eerste helft van 2022. Als gevolg van deze toename staan veel EU+-landen onder druk om aanvragen te verwerken en degenen die hulp nodig hebben te beschermen.

In 2022 werden 141 060 niet-EU burgers toegang geweigerd tot het EU territorium. Geschat werd dat 1.08 miljoen mensen irregulier aanwezig waren in een EU land. 422 400 niet-EU burgers kregen een bevel om het grondgebied te verlaten. Na een bevel om het grondgebied te verlaten, warden 96 795 niet-EU burgers teruggekeerd naar een ander land (waaronder ook EU landen). 77 530 onder hen keerden terug naar een land buiten de EU.

In het vierde kwartaal van 2022 kregen 123 865 niet-EU-burgers het bevel een EU-land te verlaten (+11% vergeleken met het derde kwartaal van 2022), en werden 28 155 niet-EU-burgers teruggestuurd naar een ander land (inclusief andere EU-landen) na een bevel om te vertrekken (+9% vergeleken met Q3 2022).
