EMN Portugal Conference: Strengthening integration: specific challenges arising from international protection

EMN Portugal’s 2025 Conference will focus on the specific challenges arising from international protection and the integration of beneficiaries. The event will bring together researchers, government agencies, social partners and private sector representatives to exchange knowledge and explore innovative policies and practices. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss national experiences and share successful approaches adaptable to various contexts.

What:

The Conference includes three sessions:

  • Panel 1: International Protection and Vulnerabilities will examine how persons in situations of vulnerability are defined and identified, and discuss ways to balance the efficient management of international protection procedures with the safeguarding of fundamental rights. The panel will explore strategies to ensure administrative efficiency without compromising the protection of the most vulnerable individuals.
     
  • Panel 2: Reception and Integration Challenges – Management of Vulnerable Cases will explore the operational challenges involved in receiving and integrating vulnerable persons. It will also examine approaches to enhance coordination and collaboration between national authorities, EU bodies, and civil society organisations.
     
  • Panel 3: Integration in Action – Experiences and Success Stories will explore different integration models and their adaptation to diverse local contexts. The panel will highlight positive integration experiences and discuss the role of public narratives in challenging stereotypes and promoting a constructive vision of migration.

The event will be held on 28 November 2025, 09:00–18:00.

Where:

It will take place in person, in Lisbon.
