22 Member States provide information on whether or not and under what conditions they grant a right to family reunification to unmarried partners whose relationship or partnership is not considered as equivalent to marriage.

The event will bring together experts from Germany and across Europe to discuss recent developments in family reunification. Debates will address the tension between safeguarding fundamental rights and meeting the requirements of migration management. Participants will explore how these priorities can be reconciled in practice through national and European approaches.

Eurostat published data on first residence permits, highlighting that 3.741.015 first residence permits were issued in the EU to non-EU citizens in 2023, a 4.7% increase compared with 2022. Belgium issued 74.366 first residence permits to non-EU nationals in 2023, an 8,5% increase compared with 2022.
