CGRS publishes asylum statistics for November 2012
Every month, the Office of the Commissioner General for Refugees and Stateless persons (CGRS) publishes a document providing the statistics on asylum applications and first instance decisions.
The statistics for November show the following trends:
• In November 2012, 1.699 asylum applications were lodged in Belgium, which is a decrease compared to previous month (2.026 applications) and also a decrease compared to November 2011 (2.318 applications).
• The main countries of origin for November 2012 were Guinee (9,7% of the total number of applications for November), Afghanistan (9%), Russia (7,5%), DR Congo (6,8%) and Syria (5,8%). Albania, Kosovo, Pakistan, Iraq and Macedonia complete the top 10 of countries of origin.
• In November 1.491 asylum decisions were taken by the CGRS, granting the refugee status in 274 cases. In 183 cases subsidairy protection was granted.
• The total caseload of the CGRS gradually declining since April 2012.
