UN-Interregional Workshop on Strengthening Capacities to deal with International Migration
The workshop, held in Geneva, has been jointly organized by three United Nations Regional Commissions as part of the UN project with the same titel, that has been conducted since 2009.
The workshop will be held in the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland on September 22-23, 2011. Participants include government delegates from countries of the three regions involved in the Project, experts on diverse migration issues and representatives from the civil society and international agencies.
The workshop aims at increasing capacities of those persons or entities responsible for designing international migration policies and programmes so that migration may be integrated into national development strategies in a practical way, taking advantage of the benefits and minimizing the negative aspects both for the origin, transit and destination countries and the migrants.
In addition, the workshop aims at promoting the exchange of national and regional experiences and good practices, by presenting the results of the background studies on migration between Africa, Europe, and Latin America and the Caribbean, elaborated as part of the project. The studies discuss emerging aspects of the migration dynamic between the three regions, highlighting those with impact on development, and analyze innovative institutional and regulatory aspects of the interregional migration.
