Towards a European Migration Policy: strategies for a multilevel governance of integration
Under the Italian Presidency of the European Union a two days conference on European Migration Policy and Integration is organized in Rome on 17-18 December 2014.
The Italian Presidency
From 1 July to 31 December 2014, Italy is in charge of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. As part of the main priorities Italy has set out, migration and asylum policies hold a top position.
The Italian Presidency has stated it intends to work at developing a genuine solidarity at European level and promoting a European migration policy.
In the context of its Chairmanship, and because the topic is of particular concern to Italy, a two-days conference will take place in Rome on 17-18 December 2014.
The conference in Rome
The conference "Towards a European Migration Policy: strategies for a multilevel governance of integration" will gather representatives from governments, academics and civil society organizations.
Together, they will discuss immigration and integration issues and challenges within the EU. In particular,
- Session 1 will focus on understanding the context and emerging challenges and evaluating the impacts of integration policies in the EU.
- Session 2 that aims to propose a better approach for the mainstream of migration will emphasize the role of integration governments, local actors and migrants' association within the integration process.
