In 2023, the Immigration Office noted a slight decrease in applications for international protection. 29.589 first applications for international protection and 5.918 subsequent applications were registered, for a total of 35.507 applications. This is slightly less than in 2022 when 32.219 first applications and 4.652 subsequent applications were registered, for a total of 36.871 applications.

In 2023, as for the most represented nationalities among all (first and subsequent) applications, those from Syrian nationals are the most represented (4.227) followed by those from Afghans (3.718) and Palestinians (3.249).
