Secondary school teachers have a new tool to address diversity and inclusion in the classroom

The Education Department of Caritas International Belgium, in collaboration with the non-profit organisation Sankaa, has launched "Building Bridges", an educational resource for secondary school teachers. This resource helps educators address key topics such as identity, prejudice, racism, and media representation. At its core, "Building Bridges" explores the central question: How can we create a more supportive and inclusive society where everyone has a place?

Caritas International Belgium and Sankaa have partnered to offer secondary school teachers an accessible tool for addressing the growing diversity in schools. Drawing on Caritas International Belgium's extensive field experience in supporting individuals with a migratory background, the resource pays particular attention to the challenges these individuals face in society.

The educational resource is organised into three sections, each featuring a variety of activities. These activities are grounded in students' experiences, alternating between practical exercises and collective reflections. The first section explores the concept of multiple identities, prejudice, and what unites us. The second section addresses issues of discrimination, racism, and strategies for fostering an inclusive society. The third section examines the representations and images portrayed by the media.

If you are a secondary school teacher and would like to access this resource, which includes three educational sheets (with materials and PowerPoint presentations), an introductory sheet, and a detailed outline of the educational objectives, please fill in this form.
