Odysseus Summer School on EU migration and asylum law and policy (2 weeks)
The Summer School in Brussels brings together around 100 participants, including students, academics, and professionals from EU Member States and EU institutions, as well as refugee-students supported by the RefYOUgees initiative. It combines a series of courses on EU Migration and Asylum Law with debates on recent policy developments. Participants also attend seminars presenting PhD research projects and discuss complex legal and policy issues. The programme provides opportunities for interaction and networking among students, academics, practitioners, and refugee participants.
What
The Odysseus Network Summer School (26th edition) aims to provide a global knowledge of EU Migration and Asylum Law, legally oriented but accessible to non-jurists. The programme is structured in three parts: Introduction to EU law in relation to Migration and Asylum, Migration including Visas and Borders, and Asylum including Solidarity. Courses are updated in line with the new instruments adopted in 2024 under the New EU Pact, entering into force in June 2026.
The programme includes debates on recent developments regarding migration and asylum policies, such as draft proposals on return and safe countries in asylum law, as well as the European Commission’s European Asylum and Migration Management Strategy. It also covers complex and controversial issues such as the accountability of Frontex, the scope of human rights, and law of the sea, and offers seminars exploring PhD projects. The Summer School brings together around 100 participants, including students, academics, and professionals from EU Member States and EU institutions, as well as refugee-students supported by the RefYOUgees initiative.
