MIGNEX policy conference: What’s next for EU migration and development policy?
During the first half of 2024, pivotal policy and political developments in the area of asylum and migration were put on the agenda, including the voting of the New Pact on Migration and Asylum by the European Parliament, and the European elections. At this critical juncture, there is a need for credible evidence, established expertise and open dialogue on the direction and shape of future policymaking. Within this context, MIGNEX is convening a high-level Policy Conference on EU migration and development policy.
What
MIGNEX organises a full-day conference, in partnership with ODI Europe, to offer fresh insights and perspectives that inform the participants on evidence-based policies during panel discussions, policy roundtables and plenary sessions. Furthermore, this conference serves as the culmination of the six-year MIGNEX project, providing a platform to disseminate the findings, insights, and recommendations from this comprehensive initiative. The discussions will revolve around:
- The drivers of migration: As people navigate challenges and opportunities in their lives, some see migration to another country as their best next step – what prompts this conclusion?
- The development impacts of migration: What are the multifaceted impacts of migration, and the circumstances under which migration leads to positive or negative development outcomes?
- Policy coherence: How do migration management and development processes relate to each other – and does a heavy focus on containment of migration impede wider EU ambitions?
When
25 April 2024 (9:30-17:30).
Where
In Brussels, Belgium.
