IOM/MPI launch handbook on diaspora engagement for development

The handbook was presented and commented on by panelists from IOM, MPI, Swedish Ambassador for the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) as well as representatives from the European Commission, Board of the Diaspora Forum for Development and other stakeholders.

Today, Wednesday 20 June, the belgian Contact Point of the EMN participated in Brussels in the launch of the handbook entitled "Developing a Road Map for Engaging Diasporas in Development" that is designed to fill the gaps in the current discourse on diasporas’ role.

Such handbook was developed by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Migration Policy Institute (MPI), in an initiative funded through grants from the governments of the Netherlands and Switzerland.

Representatives from different organizations participated in the discussion, inter alia the International Centre for Policy Development, European Council on Refugees, MIDA Great Lakes Program, etc. Many issues were adressed in relation with diasporas, the migration and development nexus as well as the global approach on migration and development (GAMM). Participants exchanged views on the expectations of/towards diasporas, specificities of refugee diaspora, funds and supportive facilities, implementation and monitoring schemes, possible training exercises, etc.

You can upload the entire handbook or specific chapters, as well as related press releases, on the MPI website.
