Fedasil has a new reception center for asylum seekers in Walcourt

Today, the first residents have arrived in the new reception centre in Walcourt, which can host 49 asylum seekers. Other residents, mainly families, will arrive gradually over the next few days.

Because Fedasil reception network is saturated, there is a lack of places to accommodate all the persons who come to seek protection in Belgium.

The new reception centre in Walcourt, located in the former premises of the National Employment Office (ONEM-RVA), can host 49 persons. The occupation of the site is planned for a limited period of time.

This is not the first time that asylum seekers are welcomed in Walcourt. During the 2015 asylum crisis, two temporary reception centers opened in the entity and were operational between November 2015 and November 2016.
