Fedasil and Citizen Service Belgium will cooperate to encourage young people to volunteer

Thanks to this collaboration, young people from all over the country will be able to volunteer in the reception centers and young asylum seekers will be able to get involved in society outside the center where they are staying.

The Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration, Nicole de Moor, announced today that Fedasil, the Federal Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers, and Citizen Service Belgium, would cooperate to encourage young people to volunteer.

Fedasil and Citizen Service Belgium have already collaborated on a small scale in Wallonia and Brussels in the past. Over the past three years, 80 young asylum seekers have already completed citizen service. In addition, more than 50 young people have engaged in various reception centres. The cooperation agreement extends this collaboration to many other centres.

Nicole de Moor stated: “Young asylum seekers are often very motivated and want to do something meaningful. Through the collaboration with Citizen Service Belgium, they get the opportunity to volunteer. In this way, they can gain experience and improve their knowledge of our language. It is also a great opportunity for young people from our country to get to know more about the work of Fedasil and the reception of asylum seekers. It is a collaboration that benefits young people and society.”
