EMN Poland high-level presidency conference: Countering irregular migration and addressing its root causes

This high-level conference will provide panel discussions among EU Member States’ ministries, the European Commission, EU agencies, national stakeholders, international organisations, and third-country officials to exchange views on tackling irregular migration, border management, countering migrant smuggling, and addressing root causes of migration.

What

EMN Poland and the Polish Office for Foreigners, in cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior and Administration, will host a high-level conference in Warsaw. As one of the final events of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU, the conference will bring together deputy ministers, EU officials, representatives from third countries and international organisations to address the persistent challenges of irregular migration and to explore sustainable responses.

Structured around three key thematic panels, the event will focus on strengthening the EU’s external border management, preventing and responding to migrant smuggling within the framework of the Global Alliance to Counter Migrant Smuggling, and addressing the root causes of irregular migration by promoting legal pathways and reinforcing cooperation with partner countries. Through the exchange of experiences and best practices, the conference aims to highlight the importance of coordinated, comprehensive and international approaches to ensure more effective and humane migration governance.
