EMN National Contact Points meet to discuss work orientations for 2013
Responding to information needs and increasing responsiveness to policy makers needs, is the key EMN objective for 2013. The EMN also aims at further informing media and public debates on asylum and immigration.
Responding to information needs with concise, analytical and quality products
At the occasion of its 57th EMN NCP meeting, the EMN underlined that it would continue to analyze and provide objective and reliable information, highlighting conclusions and policy implications to support the development of policy making in immigration and asylum issues. It also underlined the need to examine good practices aiming at informing media and public debates on international migration.
To this end, the EMN is producing new outputs such as Informs and the Bulletin, which are more analytical and focused on key messages for target groups.
Identifying study topics for 2013
Among other topics of interest, national contact points are willing to support EU & national policy making in the identification and return of victims of trafficking. Such theme is topical taking into account the Directive 2011/36/EC to be transposed by 6 April 2013, the EU Strategy towards the Eradication of Trafficking in Human Beings (2012-2016) adopted on 19 June 2012 and the EU Anti-Trafficking Day on 18 October 2012.
The Belgian NCP, together with other NCPs, also requested to further study the mechanisms and good practices allowing reception systems to face pressure and adapt in case of changing influxes.
Other themes of interest were discussed, including in relation with the current work on economic migration and its contribution to the EU growth.
Next steps
Guidance on the work program and approval of study topics are expected during the upcoming Steering Board planned on 11 October 2012.
