EMN Malta Conference: Children in migration - Navigating News Horizons

This conference, organised by the Maltese National Contact Point to the European Migration Network (EMN), aims inter alia to examine ways to strengthen ties between migrant children and host communities and to foster mutual understanding. The inclusion of migrant children in local communities, through education, social work, advisory and community services, will be discussed.

What

The conference is divided into three sessions:

  • Panel I - Arriving in Malta: focusing on disembarkation of unaccompanied minors, age assessment, representative, care orders, care plan and accommodation, as well as access to educational services.
     
  • Panel II - Living in Communities: including preparing the minors for adulthood to go out into the community, offering short-term job exposure opportunities and career guidance through the Job Brokerage Office, building bridges within the School Community, etc.
     
  • Panel III - Beyond Borders: An International Perspective: inter alia from a SIS (Schengen Information System) expert highlighting the use of the system for the protection of the children.
