EMN Luxembourg Conference: 40 Years of Schengen: People, Borders, Politics
The European Migration Network Luxembourg (EMN Luxembourg) and the UniGR-Center for Border Studies (UniGR-CBS) organise this conference to mark the 40th anniversary of the Schengen Agreement and to reflect on it critically in light of current developments. Places are limited.
What
The Schengen agreement, which was concluded on 14 June 1985, initially between Belgium, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and the Federal Republic of Germany, has been signed by 29 countries to date. It initiated the gradual abolition of controls at the EU’s internal borders but was recently put into question by different Member States reintroducing temporary controls at the EU’s internal borders. Is the European Schengen spirit about to be replaced by a national border spirit? And what would this mean for the future of Europe, its citizens, and border regions?
These questions will be explored during the joint conference organised by the EMN Luxembourg and the UniGR-Center for Border Studies. For further details, please view the agenda attached below.
