Deadline for submitting Proposals on "Migration, Stockholm and Beyond"

Researchers and academics are invited to submit proposals for presentation of concluded research and/or forthcoming research (papers/reviews/synthesis studies) before October 1st, 2013 with a view to preparing a two-day conference in the Hague on "Migration, Stockholm and Beyond".

Seminar

On December 9th and 10th 2013, the Migration Policy Department of the Netherlands Ministry of Security and Justice plans to organize a two-day seminar in The Hague with policy makers and academia to discuss and share research results and policy challenges relating to the Stockholm migration chapters. The purpose is to build bridges between academia and policy makers to provide useful input for the Stockholm follow-up programme.

Subjects

The seminar shall focus on the migration and asylum related aspects of the Stockholm Programme, such as (but not exclusively): Trafficking, Migration and Development, External dimension, Effective border control, Visa policy, Readmission Agreements, Migration and development (synergy; the comprehensive partnership with the countries of origin and of transit), Full exercise of the right to free movement (EU citizens; Long-term residents); Control of illegal immigration; Ensuring that illegal immigrants return to their countries of origin or to a country of transit; Asylum, The construction of a Europe of asylum. Also institutional aspects (role Council, Commission, EP, EASO in migration governance) as well as decision-making, reporting and such like will be scheduled.

Submission of proposals

Researchers and academics are invited to submit proposals for presentation of concluded research and/or forthcoming research (papers)/reviews/synthesis studies - within the conference theme and subjects (above) before October 1st, 2013. Contributions should be submitted to migrationconference@minvenj.nl in the form of two pages A4 (short description; synopsis, valorization). In October all researchers/academics will be informed as to who will be invited to attend and present. A more definitive programme will also be provided then.
