The Council of State orders the suspension of the decision not to offer shelter to single male asylum seekers

Today, the Council of State ruled that the use of the extreme emergency procedure was justified and that the decision not to offer shelter to single male asylum seekers violates the right to reception that asylum seekers have by law.

Last week, eight associations filed an emergency appeal before the Council of State against the decision from the Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration to temporarily suspend the reception of single male asylum seekers.

This Wednesday, the Council of State ordered the suspension of the execution of the decision of the Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration to temporarily exclude single male asylum seekers from the benefit of the reception provided for by the law of 12 January 2007 on the reception of asylum seekers and certain other categories of foreigners.

Nicole de Moor reacted to the above-mentioned decision: "Suspension of the Council of State does not ensure that we suddenly have places for everyone. My policy will therefore not change: absolute priority goes to families and children".
