When: 27 May 2011
Where: Hotel Corbie Mol, Corbiestraat 64, 2400 Mol/Belgium
Attention for the integration of non-European citizens has strongly increased during the past few years. The basic idea hereby is that an elaborated integration policy next to an immigration policy is necessary to realise a better and stronger integration. Does this policy have its longed-for effect on the situation of non-European citizens? What is the relation between policy and integration processes?
During the conference, researches from several countries will be presented that shed a new light on the immigration and integration debate. The central question will be how to realize a better and stronger integration. A comparative analysis of five countries (Belgium, Cyprus, Malta, Italy and the UK) will be made with regards to the area of immigration and integration policy and especially to the effects of these policies on the situation of non-European citizens in these countries. Special attention goes to the perspectives of non-European citizens on the policy and integration process as well as to successful and instructive practices.
Speakers, amongst others, are: Bob Pleysier (former director-general of Fedasil) and Dave Van Oosterwyck (Counsellor of Minister Geert Bourgeois)
