CGRS resumes processing of non-UNRWA West Bank applications
The Office of the Commissioner General for Refugees and Stateless Persons (CGRS) has announced that it will resume processing cases from applicants originating from the West Bank who are not registered with UNRWA. The decision follows a temporary suspension in March 2025 due to the unstable situation in the region. The CGRS now has sufficient up-to-date and objective information to assess the need for international protection.
On 12 March 2025, the CGRS temporarily suspended the processing of cases from applicants from the West Bank who were not registered with UNRWA. The suspension allowed the CGRS to gather sufficient objective information to accurately assess the situation in the region and the need for protection. During this period, personal interviews and assessments continued for other categories, and decisions were still issued for applicants already enjoying protection in another EU Member State.
The CGRS has now determined that it has adequate, up-to-date information to enable a correct assessment of the need for international protection. Processing of the previously suspended files will resume, with assessments conducted individually according to standard procedures.
Applicants who have submitted an application and have not yet received a decision do not need to contact the CGRS. They will be invited for a personal interview as part of the assessment process. Any relevant documents that have not yet been submitted can be sent to the CGRS to support the application.
