CGRS publishes statistics on asylum applications for July 2012
Every month, the Office of the Commissioner Gereral for Refugees and Stateless persons (CGRS) publishes a document providing the statistics on the asylum applications and the first instance decisions.
The statistics for July show the following trends:
• In July 2012 1866 asylum applications were lodged in Belgium, which is an increase (8,1%) compared to June 2012.
• The main countries of origin for July are: Afghanistan (12.3% of the total number of applications), Guinea (8.5%), Russia (7.0%), DR Congo (5.2%) and Albania (4,2%). Kosovo, Iraq, Serbia, Pakistan, Syria and Macedonia complete the top 10 of the countries of origin.
• 1693 decisions in asylum applications were made during the month July, granting the refugee status in 242 cases and 94 decisions were subsidiary protection status was granted.
