CGRS publishes data on asylum applications for September 2011
Every month, the Office of the Commissioner General for Refugees and Stateless Persons publishes a document containing the statistics on the asylum applications and the decisions taken.
The number of asylum applications, the principal nationalities involved, the number and nature of the decisions, as well as the evolution of the workload can be consulted in the monthly statistics document.
In September 2011, 2,480 asylum applications were filed, which confirms the upward trend of the previous months. The total number of asylum applications filed in Belgium since the beginning of 2011 amounts to 18,122. In September 2011, the main countries of origin were Afghanistan (11 % of the total number of applications), Guinea (8 %), Iraq (7.9 %), Russia (6 %) and Kosovo (5.1 %). Pakistan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Albania complete the top 10 of the countries of origin.
In September 2011, 382 decisions to grant refugee status and 104 decisions to grant subsidiary protection were taken. At the end of September 2011, the total workload of the CGRS amounted to 13,023 files. 4,500 files can be considered as a normal workload. The actual backlog amounts to 8,523 files.
