CGRS publishes data on asylum applications for January 2012
Every month, the Office of the Commissioner General for Refugees and Stateless persons publishes a document containing the statistics on the asylum applications and the first instance decisions.
In this publication the statisticson asylum applications for the month January 2012, the nationalities involved and the number and nature of the first instance decisions can be consulted.
In January 2012, 2160 asylum applications (cases) were lodged; this is a decrease compared to December 2011, but an increase compared to January 2011.
The main countries of origin for the month January were Afghanistan, Guinee, DR Congo, Bangladesh and Russia.
In January the CGRS took 1637 decisons, of which some 300 decisions were positive decisions were a protrection status was granted.
