CGRS publishes asylum statistics for September 2012
Every month, the Office of the Commissioner General for Refugees and Stateless persons (CGRS) publishes a document providing the statistics on asylum applications and first instance decisions.
The statistics for September show the following trends:
- In September 2012, 1.702 asylum applications were lodged in Belgium, which is an increase compared to August 2012 (1.627 applications), but a decrease compared to September 2011 (2.480 applications).
- The main countries of origin for September 2012 were: Afghanistan (13% of the total number of applications), Guinea (7,7%), Russia (6,9%), DR Congo (6,8%) and Kosovo (4,8%). Syria, Albania, Serbia, Iraq and Pakistan complete the top 10 of countries of origin.
- In September 1.621 asylum decisions were taken by the CGRS, granting the refugee status in 220 cases and 149 decisions were subsidairy protection was granted.
- The total caseload of the CGRS is gradually declining since April 2012.
