CGRS publishes asylum statistics for April 2013

The statistics for April 2013 show the following trends:
• In April 2013, 1.346 asylum applications were lodged in Belgium, which is a decrease compared to previous month (March 2013: 1.447 applications) and also a significant decrease compared to the same month of last year (April 2012: 1.656 applications).
• The main countries of origin for April 2013 were Afghanistan (10,3% of the total number of applications for April 2013), Guinee (9,1%), DR Congo (8,5%), Russia (6%), and Kosovo (5,3%). Iraq, Syria, Albania and Cameroon complete the top 10 of countries of origin.

• The number of subsequent asylum applications remains high (514 cases).
• The total caseload of the CGRS is gradually declining since April 2012 and is now reduced to less than 10.000 cases (for the first time since 2011).
Notes:
These CGRS-statistics reflect cases and not persons. (Eurostat = persons)
