3.122 people choose voluntary return in 2025, according to Fedasil

On 3 February 2026, Fedasil published its statistics on voluntary returns for 2025. A total of 3.122 people chose to return to their country of origin. The number is slightly lower than in 2024 but higher than in 2023. The top destination countries include Brazil, Moldova, Syria, Colombia, and Turkey.

In 2025, 3.122 individuals returned voluntarily to their country of origin, representing a decrease of 4.5% compared with 2024 and an increase of 6% compared with 2023. Brazil and Moldova remained the most common destinations, as in 2024, occupying the first and second places. Syria entered the top five for the first time, with 219 voluntary returns, up from just six in 2024, reflecting changes following the fall of the Assad regime.

Approximately half of the returnees were irregularly staying migrants, while 27% were applicants for international protection and another 27% were at the end of their procedure. Families with children accounted for nearly half of the total, and the remainder were predominantly single adults, with a small number of unaccompanied minors. The largest age group among returnees was 25–44 years.

Not all individuals opting for voluntary return are entitled to reintegration assistance. For example, Minister Van Bossuyt decided to end such support for returnees to Brazil and Moldova. Nevertheless, in 2025, 2.481 returnees, representing 79% of the total, received reintegration assistance across 87 countries.
