Deze ad hoc vraag verzamelt voornamelijk informatie over berekeningsmethoden die worden gebruikt om de noodzakelijke opvangcapaciteit voor verzoekers om internationale bescherming te bepalen en over de flexibiliteitsmaatregelen die zijn ontwikkeld in geval van tekorten of overschotten. Het onderzoekt ook hoe EMN Lidstaten en Waarnemende Landen de uitstroom van begunstigden van internationale bescherming en afgewezen verzoekers om internationale bescherming naar huisvesting en andere vormen van huisvesting organiseren.

On 13 November 2025, several civil society organisations held a silent protest outside the Palais de Justice in Brussels to draw attention to the shortage of reception places for third-country nationals. Participants, including advocates, volunteers, and citizens, brought sleeping bags to symbolise people forced to sleep outdoors. The demonstration called for urgent measures to ensure that all individuals entitled to accommodation can access it.

The Dutch Council of State has ruled that single male asylum seekers may no longer be transferred to Belgium under the Dublin Regulation. The judgment cites systemic failures in Belgium’s reception and legal protection for this group, exposing them to a real risk of inhuman treatment. These individuals must now remain in the Netherlands while their asylum claims are processed.

Fedasil announced that the Belgian reception network has now a higher capacity than that recorded during the asylum crisis of 2015-2016. However, this capacity is insufficient to accommodate all applicants for international protection who are entitled to reception. At present, 2.650 single men are still on the waiting list for a reception place.

Fedasil heeft aangekondigd tijdelijk gebruik te maken van centra in Bredene (Vlaanderen) en in Theux (Wallonië) om aanvragers voor internationale bescherming op te vangen tot maart 2025. Beide locaties zijn in het verleden al door Fedasil gebruikt, telkens voor een periode van enkele maanden.
