OECD debate on addressing forced displacement in climate change adaptation
This virtual event is part of the OECD COP28 Virtual Pavilion, which runs from 23 November to 12 December 2023. The pavilion presents key OECD contributions with insights to drive ambitious and globally effective action on climate change.
What
Climate-induced displacement demands a more structural, long-term, development-oriented approach, alongside short-term humanitarian responses, in the context of climate change adaptation efforts. A major channel through which to achieve this is climate change adaptation commitments, notably National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) – as they are designed to set national priorities and targets, and to justify and register need for climate finance from international partners.
This panel event will discuss how forced displacement is addressed in National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). Raffaela Greco Tonegutti, who is the human mobility team leader within the Belgian Development Agency Enabel, is one of the speakers of the panel.
