Frankrijk heeft aangekondigd dat er grenscontroles zullen plaatsvinden op zijn grenzen met België, Luxemburg, Duitsland, de Zwitserse Confederatie, Italië en Spanje (land, lucht en zee) van 1 november 2024 tot 30 april 2025. Vergelijkbare controles werden al uitgevoerd van 1 mei 2024 tot 31 oktober 2024 in het kader van de Olympische en Paralympische Spelen die in de zomer van 2024 in Frankrijk werden georganiseerd.

Checks are being temporarily reintroduced at Germany's borders with Belgium, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Denmark. They will run from 16 September 2024 until 15 March 2025 to, among other things, reduce irregular migration and combat people smuggling. 

On 4 September 2014, the Court of Justice of the European Union issued a case-law concerning the interpretation of the Regulations establishing the Schengen Borders Code (2006) and the Visa Code (2009)
