The transition from reception centres to independent living remains a major challenge for many beneficiaries of international or temporary protection in Belgium, as the housing market is under pressure and affordable accommodation is scarce. PATHS (Providing Assistance for Transitioning Housing Solutions), funded by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+), addresses this issue by focusing on both structural and practical solutions.

In Belgium, the project foresees the launch of a national housing matching platform to connect beneficiaries with suitable housing opportunities. It also aims to reinforce the capacity of intermediary organisations and to raise awareness among landlords, real estate agents, diaspora organisations and community groups about equal access to the housing market. Fedasil’s new housing team will play a role in building networks and developing this platform.

Beyond Belgium, the project will develop similar tools in France and further strengthen the Heliospiti platform in Greece. By fostering cooperation between local organisations, PATHS intends to create more effective support structures for beneficiaries of international and temporary protection. The overall ambition is to facilitate a smoother transition towards independent living and reduce the risk of homelessness in the participating countries.
