In 2024, 60.108 people acquired Belgian nationality, according to Statbel

According to a press release published on 11 June 2025, Statbel reported that 60.108 individuals acquired Belgian nationality in 2024. The five most common previous nationalities among those who became Belgian were Moroccan, Syrian, Romanian, Afghan and Turkish.

In total, Belgium recorded 60.150 nationality changes in 2024, according to Statbel, the Belgian statistical office. Among these, 60.108 people acquired Belgian nationality, while 42 individuals lost it.

The largest groups acquiring Belgian nationality in 2024 were Moroccans (5.647), Syrians (3.639), Romanians (3.336), Afghans (2.771), and Turks (2.463). These five nationalities account for over 29% of all acquisitions of Belgian nationality in 2024.

Compared to the previous year, the number of acquisitions of Belgian nationality increased by nearly 5.000: in 2023, 55.213 people became Belgian.
