Events across Belgium around World Refugee Day 2025
From Brussels to Virton and beyond, a wide range of activities are being organised across Belgium in the lead-up to World Refugee Day on 20 June 2025. Cultural events, open days, artistic performances and community gatherings will shine a light on the talents, stories and resilience of people forced to flee.
What
Held annually on 20 June, World Refugee Day is an opportunity to acknowledge the experiences of refugees and express solidarity. In Belgium, this year's edition is marked by a rich programme of events, including:
- In Brussels, Refugee Committees – with the support of UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and the Brussels Capital Region – are hosting a full week of events from 15 to 23 June. The programme includes concerts, a football tournament, a photo exhibition, a book fair, film screenings and more.
- Fedasil and its network of reception centres and partners are also opening their doors across the country, with open days, picnics, film evenings and exhibitions.
- In the south of the country, the town of Virton invites the public to a rich programme from 20 June to 4 July, including an exhibition titled "One Look, One Story", workshops and social exchanges.
- Private initiatives are also joining in: dancer and choreographer Jeny Bonsenge has launched the #Dance4Refugees challenge at Bozar in Brussels, encouraging people to film themselves dancing her choreography and share it online in support of refugees.
