Pieter Spinnewijn is appointed as General Director of Fedasil

On Friday 3 May 2024, the Council of Ministers approved a draft royal decree appointing Pieter Spinnewijn as Director General of the Federal Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (Fedasil). His mandate will begin on 1 July 2024 for a period of six years.

On the proposal of the Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration Nicole de Moor, the Council of State approved a draft royal decree appointing Pieter Spinnewijn as Director General of Fedasil

Pieter Spinnewijn has worked for Fedasil for more than 15 years. He has experience in the field, notably within the Petit-Château where he worked as HR manager and director. He also worked in central services in Brussels. Since January 2021, Pieter Spinnewijn has been acting Director of Operational Services at Fedasil.

Pieter Spinnewijn succeeds Michael Kegels, who resigned in September 2022. In the meantime, Fanny François assumed the position of General Director ad interim.
