13th European Summer School: EU Law and Policy on Immigration and Asylum (1-12 July)

The Academic Network for Legal Studies on Immigration and Asylum in Europe organizes this 13th edition of the Summer School to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the immigration and asylum policy of the EU from a legal perspective.

What?

The Summer School, which is organised by the Academic Network for Legal Studies on Immigration and Asylum in Europe, founded with the financial support of the Odysseus Programme of the European Commission and coordinated by the Institute for European Studies of the Université Libre de Bruxelles, includes specialised lectures on:

2. European Visa Policy
3. External Relations & European Policy of Immigration and Asylum
4. Immigration for purposes of work or studies
5. Family Reunification
6. Legal Status of Third Country Nationals, Non-discrimination and Integration
7. Regularisation of Illegal Immigrants
8. Fighting Illegal Immigration
9. Return and Readmission Policy
10. European Databases (SIS, VIS, ...)
11. Status of Asylum seekers and protected persons
12. The European Concepts of Refugee and of Subsidiary Protection
13. Distribution of Refugees between Member States (Dublin and EURODAC)
14. Asylum Procedures
15. The position of UNHCR on the European asylum policyThe classes

Admission Requirements?

Applicants must have some legal background. They must have either completed a University degree (BA or equivalent) in Law, Political Science or International Relations (graduates of other disciplines will be considered depending on the courses they have followed) or have professional experience in a relevant field, for example as civil servants, NGOs, etc… Interested persons should complete the application form. The selection is made from among the applicants who meet the admissibility criteria in accordance with the date of registration.

Registration?

The total tuition fees for the program are 600 € for students, 750 € for NGOs and PhD candidates and 950 € for those otherwise in full-time employment. This covers the classes, the documentation packs, the visits, receptions and daily coffee breaks, excluding food and accommodation. The Network will not be able to provide any grants covering tuition fees. The closing date for applications has been set for 7 June 2013. Interested candidates are strongly advised to submit their applications as soon as possible, because of the limited number of places available.
